Brain Injury Association of New Jersey Offers Free Session for Families

(Vocus) March 23, 2010 -- The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey will offer its free educational session Brain Injury Basics for Families, on Thursday, April 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hunterdon Medical Center, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, New Jersey.

The program, designed for family members of people who have sustained brain injuries, provides a presentation and forum for questions. People with brain injuries and professionals are also welcome. The session is facilitated by Peggy DiTommaso, MSW, who has volunteered her time to be a Brain Injury Association of New Jersey Affiliated Support Group Leader for over 20 years.

Brain Injury Basics for Families surveys the impact of brain injuries—which are sustained every day as a result of falls, motor vehicle crashes, sports injuries, anoxia, aneurisms, and other types of trauma to the brain. Attendees learn common effects of brain injury, strategies and tips for caregivers, and what resources are available to help them in New Jersey.

The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey is able to provide Brain Injury Basics for Families with funding from the New Jersey Traumatic Brain Injury Fund, which was created, in part, to provide for public education and prevention activities related to brain injury. Brain Injury Basics is offered throughout New Jersey, in a different county each month.

To register for a session, please call 732-745-0200, or register online at www.bianj.org/brain-injury-basics.

The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey is a statewide organization committed to supporting and advocating for individuals affected by brain injury and raising public awareness through education and prevention. A brain injury can happen to anyone at anytime. For more information on the services and resources of the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey call the toll-free helpline at 1-800-669-4323 or visit www.bianj.org.
